THE STORY CONTINUES...

That grumpy bugger - Doc Martin - is back for a fifth series in 2011. The story picks up after the birth of Martin and Louisa's son. Will Martin return to his post as Portwenn's GP? Will fatherhood help the Doc to mellow? Will he and Louisa play happy families? Of course not! The road to happiness will no doubt be fraught with an array of delightfully entertaining challenges.

The Doc Martin Series 5 Blog follows the progress of Series 5 from filming to post-episode dissection, and everything in between. It will endeavour to keep you up-to-date with all that's happening in and around Portwenn.

Your contributions to the site are welcomed, encouraged and essential. If you have information, tips, photos, a story to tell or a question to ask, don't hesitate to shoot me off an email, or post a comment. The Doc is in!

  2. I just watched the first episode of season 5 and am hugely disapointed. I don't think I can recover from the loss of Auntie Joan AND Pauline. Why couldn't Joan have just taken a much needed vacation?. At least they can bring Pauline back.

    1. Hi to "Anonymous" dated 03 Mar 2012!
I respect your reaction... but don't agree with loss of Pauline, especially. She had become so insubordinate, rude and downright disrespectful to her "boss" Doc Martin... it was tiresome to watch her most times for me! She had her scooter repossessed in the Surgery; harshly setup little POPPY by telling her to give coffee to ALL patients because she (Pauline) was jealous when the Doc liked Poppy's suggestions; Pauline was often late to work, always GAMBLING on government and company computer and ignoring Surgery work so that she could continually gamble; Pauline's mother created a row about Pauline's theft via Mom's credit card charges to online casino gambling; boyfriends always hanging around in surgery and worse... Pauline making-out on Doc's kitchen table while patient set waiting during open hours; lets not forget the endless inappropriate snooping, gossiping about the Doc and patient business that Pauline routinely undertook... sleeping at her desk and discussing ALL of her personal dumb stuff in the office... just as bad as Elaine had been and just as mean and sneaky when she (Pauline) steamed open the Doc's post... then resealed it and denied what she had done. And the coup de gras... when Pauline interrupted (w/o knocking first) Doc during a patient examination... to tell him about an "emergency" in the surgery waiting room! UNBELIEVABLE... I was glad to see her go and wondered why he put up with so much of her horrid, insulting manner and sarcisms.

Auntie Joan, I wholeheartedly agree was a big loss... except her replacement via Aunt Ruth, the psychiatrist... opened not only different story offshoots for both Martin and villagers... because Ruth is a mental health professional; but also, I felt that Joan had pretty much lasted past her ability to continue to be credible. WHAT COULD SHE DO... to amaze us after the affair with the painter and sex w/him on her kitchen table!!!

I adore the addition of the baby and can't get enough of Martin with the baby who looks JUST LIKE HIM. Amazing. Where did they get an infant who has big ears, huge pretty and expressive eyes; big hands and hair and head shaped just like Martin Clunes. AMAZING! Plus the baby seems to laugh every time the camera wants him to. I hope series 6 updates the baby but adds a new pregnancy because a lot more fun can be had via a 2nd girl child who looks just like pretty Louisa! Hopefully the girl child will be tempermental like Martin. Remember Louisa told Bert in Series 3 that she wanted "lots of kids... with the right man"!!

Hang in there... and give Aunt Ruth a chance... it's worth it because Doc Martin is different yes... but story and performance EXCELLENCE are threaded through every scene with every character doing a splendid... including that marvelous baby boy!

    2. Wow What is with you people?!! Taking this show sooo seriously. It's not real, there is nothing logical or believable about the story lines BUT those actors all are very good and make it work. When I saw Martin Clunes in a horse special and with his dogs, that is the man I fell in love with! What receptionist hasn't wanted to do or say the things Pauline got to "I won't be there to protect you when you are hiding in the closet like a girl" What a hoot And those babies, 6 or 7 of them at last count and at least one girl - that's what babies look like at that young age - I will enjoy them/him but I wouldn't wish for another child to be inserted into such a disfuctional "family" Oops, now I'm taking this too seriously

  4. I was appalled that the villagers seemed to think it was their right to listen in to a "broadcast" of Louisa giving birth (completely unbeknownst to her). I know they think they're a kind of large family, but that's about as private as it gets. You'd think at least one person would have the decency to turn the cell phone volume off, but not one person even voiced a concern.

Did this bother anyone else? If if I were Louisa, I'd be taking names when I found out.

  6. HULU.com has Doc Martin for free; careful not to sign up for HULUPLUS, though - that's not free. I saw series 1-4 on Hulu, so was able to catch up on all those I'd missed. I was also disappointed about Aunt Joan and Pauline, at first, but agree Pauline was a huge p-i-t-a! I wasn't sorry to see her go; I will miss Aunt Joan though - she was a hoot!
