That grumpy bugger - Doc Martin - is back for a fifth series in 2011. The story picks up after the birth of Martin and Louisa's son. Will Martin return to his post as Portwenn's GP? Will fatherhood help the Doc to mellow? Will he and Louisa play happy families? Of course not! The road to happiness will no doubt be fraught with an array of delightfully entertaining challenges.
The Doc Martin Series 5 Blog follows the progress of Series 5 from filming to post-episode dissection, and everything in between. It will endeavour to keep you up-to-date with all that's happening in and around Portwenn.
Your contributions to the site are welcomed, encouraged and essential. If you have information, tips, photos, a story to tell or a question to ask, don't hesitate to shoot me off an email, or post a comment. The Doc is in!
A huge thank you goes to MClunesfan123 for making each Episode of Series 5 available for all of us to enjoy! Thank you! Here's Episode Eight - Ever After.
That magnificent, beautiful ending to S5E8 seems to me, to signal the end of Doc Martin the TV show. In using a helicopter to get that sweeping panorama of the Cornish coast, the producers created an analogue of the very beginning of the show, the opening of S1E1...except that at the beginning we were transported from far up in the air and into the lives of the characters, beginning with Dr. Martin Ellingham and Louisa Glasson...whereas in the ending of S5E8, we start out living with them the epiphany that finally brings together these same two characters, but then are taken far up and away...and out of their lives.
Here in Portland, OR... With that ending, it does seem like a farewell, but I sure do hope they make a Series 6 and ongoing. Such a beautiful shot of them walking together holding hands, and the coastline from above. There are so many more ongoing stories the writers could create for the Doc and Louisa.
WE DISCOVERED THIS TOTALLY WONDERFUL SHOW AND MARTIN CLUNES, CAROLINE CATZ AND THE ENTIRE TALENTED CAST THIS YEAR-- THANK YOU FOR PROVIDING PERFORMANCES AND STORY LINES WHICH WENT STRAIGHT TO OUR HEARTS. WE LAUGHED, CRIED, SPENT MANY EVENINGS SPECULATING ON WHAT WAS TO COME AND LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT EPISODE. YOU'VE BLESSED US WITH THE BEST OF WHAT THIS MEDIUM HAS TO OFFER. WE LOOK FORWARD TO FUTURE SERIES, BUT IF NOT, OUR THANKS FOR THESE.
Good ending. This ending sets up a series 6 where they marry, combining it with the christening so the doc doesn't have to put up with too much wining and dining of the locals. They must also now have lots of that honeymoon sex (we don't see, of course) and cuddling they both need desperately. Louisa will need to have another baby, so they can share pregnancy, unlike last time. Anyway, that's my vision, but I won't attempt to actually write a script, so no worries if you don't agree.
Everyone I have told to turn in Doc Martin, loves it just as much as I do. Now, they have cut off just as Louise and her baby met their daddy. Hey, that's not fair. What can we do to bring them back? Any chance we can see the rest of the shows? Please help!!
Thank you, thank you! Glad you're back!

Here in Los Angeles, is the series over?
ReplyDeleteThat was a wonderful ending. Any guess as to whether or not the series is now ended for good?

I love your ideas, they reflect my hopes as well.
DeleteWere there articles in the tv journals in the UK after Episode 8? Any comments on the series from the critics there?
